Moussawi: US and Lebanese governments exclusivity responsible for crisis
Source: NowLebanon.com, 03-04-2008
Hizbullah International Relations Officer said the Arab Summit was held in the right time at the right place. "The deactivation of the Arab League, due to the non-acknowledgement of reality, only leads to the weakening of the Arab position in its entirety," Moussawi said.
"The current situations in Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq are harmed by inter-Arab struggles, which only add to the crises in those countries and deepen their internal divides."
Moussawi noted the need for non-partisan Arab policies in the Lebanese crisis, adding that a solution to the political deadlock could only be reached if the opposition was recognized as an active partner in national decision-making "especially as the opposition has the support of the majority of the Lebanese people."
Moussawi articulated the opposition's support of the 1960 cada-based electoral law, adding that the opposition was ready to reach an understanding which could treat the core of the Lebanese crisis.
"The delays in a solution to the Lebanese crisis come from two sources: external, represented by the American administration and its friends... who are primarily concerned with protecting 'Israel'," Moussawi said. "The second is internal, represented by insistence on exclusivity and the rejection of participation."
Nawwaf Moussawi also emphasized on Wednesday the need to prevent the American administration from turning Lebanon into a no man's land in which the US could conduct its wars and exercise its hegemony.
"Lebanon continues in its confessional and political pluralism," he continued, adding that all Lebanese sects should be justly represented.
"The (so-called) 'majority' of the Lebanese people, represented by the opposition, made the choice to liberate Lebanon and cement its independence and unity," Moussawi concluded.
