“Israeli” forces set up unit to monitor soldiers’ internet activities
The "Israeli" Occupation Forces (IOF) - Intelligence Corps - have set up a special unit to find intentional media leaks by soldiers and officers, as well as unintended leaks via social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace as hundreds of thousands of new recruits regularly use social media sites.
.
Haaretz "Israeli" daily reported on its website on Thursday that the "Crackdown is part of a plan- which is a product of the "Israeli" aggression on Lebanon in July 2006 as well as other undisclosed conclusions and reasons.
According to the news paper, "Israeli" forces spokesperson said "The investigative division had been established within Military Intelligence's Department of Information Security. Members of the unit scan Web sites including Facebook and MySpace, and the Twitter short-messaging service."
In addition, the unit reviews transcripts of hundreds of senior officers' conversations, to ensure they are not speaking to journalists without authorization, Haaretz reported.
The new unit will be allowed to give polygraph tests to soldiers and officers suspected of leaking information.
The "Israeli" military is taking defensive action via the different social media networks including blogs and internet forums as well.
As "Israeli" army spokesperson revealed, Head of the "Israeli" Military Intelligence, Amos Yadlin declared that the internet currently forms the "fourth dimension of conflict" with the Palestinians and Arabs, stating that the internet is only another battle ground added to those land and aerial confrontations.
