Black Box Located, More Hope in Finding Victims’ Bodies
Local Editor, 28-1-2010
A military source reavealed today that on Wednesday a search team located the black box from the Ethiopian airliner that plunged into the Lebanese waters on Monday morning, with 90 people on board, all presumed dead, AFP reported.
The source added that the U.S. navy destroyer detected new vibration sounds from the black box and is working finding the plane's flight recorders.
"The box was found approximately 10 kilometers (six miles) west of the airport, 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) deep," a military spokesperson said. "However, we have not yet reached them."
Reports said this morning that the British ship ‘Ocean Alert' is currently retrieving the Ethiopian plane's black box from the sea.
Five Ethiopians and six Lebanese have been identified among the 14 bodies at the Rafik Hariri University Hospital, including two children, Health Minister Mohammad Jawad Khalifeh declared Wednesday.
This morning, one of the two children, Julia Al Hajj, who was killed with both her parents in the crash was handed over to her family and will be buried at noon.
