Khiyam-- At a first glance, it might seem logical... But something compels the observer to jog the memory back four years.

UNIFIL Ignores the Killer, Goes After a Vandal

The news report says the UNIFIL forces submitted a complaint against an unknown person/s to the Khiyam town police station. The reason: one of the name tiles, not exceeding 20 cm in length and width, for commemorating four of the international observers whose post was completely exterminated when it came under a direct "Israeli" air strike on the thirteenth day of the July 2006 aggression... The remains of only three of the observers were found; the fourth observer's remains are still missing.

Since then, the international observers' headquarters near Khiyam detention center-also demolished- have been deleted from the map map.

Nothing remaining now points to this location except a helicopter landing pad, some destroyed trenches and a piece of road- shattered by rocket shrapnel- leading up to the rocks of the destroyed post...

Only tens of meters on the other side of this post, stands a monument, torn by the war machine, at its bottom lay small slabs, placed as a sign of the fallen international observers in this place...

Here lies the bottom line; after jogging our memory back, many questions stand out between these lines... but before posing these questions, it must be recognized that whoever this unknown offending party is, breaking this tile is an immoral offense of the first degree.

It is immoral to vandalize relics symbolizing those who sacrificed and served, and perished alongside the people of South Lebanon under the bombs of the "Israeli" aggression...

First: the perpetrator can be punished with imprisonment for months or years... on the grounds that what happened is an attack on UN facilities.

Second: Here lies the question: who is more deserving of complaint and punishment?? The ‘anonymous' who broke a fragment of a tile, or those whose identity is known, who destroyed an international building and post on the heads of those serving in it and killed them instantly!!!

Wouldn't the more feasible question here be, why not lodge a complaint against the "Israeli" terrorist murderers and destroyers?? And why those murderers are free and not put in jail, not even for a single day??

This southern observer says the answer is as clear and frank as the "Israeli" terrorist fragments that carve the memory related to these four tiles and the walls that carry them!!
