MP Mokdad: Increasing Taxes Increasing Poverty
Local Editor 02-04-2010
Member of Parliamentary Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, MP Ali Mokdad, held a political meeting in Imam Al Jawad compound, where he referred to the government's budget, stressing that the more it's postponed, the tougher the Lebanese people's economic, social, and living crisis become.
MP Mokdad revealed the government's economic vision based on increasing taxes, precisely the VAT (Value-Added Tax), in order to add money to the treasury, without any effort.
Mokdad said that a study of a 13% increase in taxes shows a level of 32.3% of the Lebanese people below poverty, and a 15% increase, results in more than 52% of the Lebanese people below poverty, making it clear that they are absolutely against tax increase.
Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc member confirmed that in its ministerial statement, the National Unity Government showed great concerns regarding the economic, social, and living situation.
Mokdad went on saying that every time the concerned ministries are asked to implement any project; the usual answer is that there is not budget.
Urgent economic and living projects should be put into action, while Lebanese people are still waiting for the ministerial budget approval, he concluded.
