Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali organized a reception yesterday at BIEL. The event was characterized by the massive attendance, which noticeably included March 14 ministers and MPs.

Ambassador Abdel Karim Ali said in his address that "Syria's hand is extended and its heart is open to its brothers; it welcomes responsible criticism and abides by self-criticism as well, but it refuses any bargaining on dignity and rights, and is attached to its constant principles."

MP Walid Jumblatt won everyone's attention as usual, whereas MP George Adwan asserted, while standing next to Ambassador Ali Abdel Karim Ali, that he represents the Lebanese Forces. Adwan spoke of Syria and its ambassador in positive terms, but Abdel Karim Ali did not seem too pleased by it.

MP Marwan Hamadeh's presence came as a surprise to many people who did not expect his attendance. Yet Hamadeh said, "We accept the invitations of many Arab embassies, and so we should do so with Syria."

In the same context, MP Ammar Houri of the Future party who also attended the festival told intiqad.net that the bilateral relations are very important and should be normal, stressing the significance of building strong ties between Syria and Lebanon.
Among the Lebanese forces MPs was Fadi Habr, who also -like Adwan- spoke of Syria in positive terms.

According to intiqad.net, MP Fadi said "We want relations to be more stable between the two countries. These relations are on the right track now through diplomacy, and we recognize that having good relations with Syria is in Lebanon's interest."
