French Foreign Ministry Sources to Intiqad: No Proof on Syria Weapons Delivery to Hizbullah
Local Editor 22-04-2010
It seems that confusion is taking over the French foreign ministry regarding what the ministry's spokesperson said about France's concerns over Syria's supplying Scud missiles to Hizbullah.
French foreign ministry sources told "intiqad.net", "There is no proof that Syria is supplying Hizbullah with weapons".
The French foreign ministry's spokesperson's statements concerning the issue of Syria supplying Scud missiles to Hizbullah are believed to be based on "Israeli" statements concerning the issue.
On whether it is able to help in investigating this case, France's Foreign ministry confirmed it was not France's duty to investigate, adding that it only commented on "Israeli" statements, as did the Syrians.
Concerning whether this issue is a violation to resolution 1701 or not, French sources answered, "A violation yes, but first it should be proven that Syria is really supplying the missiles".
"We won't say that France wants to penalize Syria". It also said, "France was not the only one commenting on the issue, for the US as well. We are used to US statements on all issues related to "Israel"," the French source added.
When questioned why France was the only European country that made a statement, the French source said, "The French Foreign Ministry commented on the issue and it's over".
"France has no power on UNIFIL forces, for these are international forces and are under the power of the UN," the French source said in a comment on the French force participating in the UN interim forces in South Lebanon.
