Ban Looks Forward to Ghajar Pullout in “Near Future”
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hoped for an "Israeli" withdrawal from the northern part of the border village of Ghajar "in the near future."
Ban told An Nahar daily in New York, however, that the U.N.'s estimated timeframe for the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701's clause on Ghajar did not meet with "Israeli" estimates.
The secretary-general confirmed that "Israeli" authorities approved his proposal on the Ghajar pullout, adding he has asked "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take tangible steps in this regard.
Asked if he thought any positive development would take place anytime soon, Ban said: "Anytime soon means something will happen within a week or two ... I hope for a development in the near future," highlighting that he will continue "exerting pressure" on the enemy government to take this step.
