Information Minister Mitri Raises Jamming Issue at Airport
Information Minister, Tarek Mitri, held on Monday at his ministerial office, a coordination meeting to address the issue of organizing radio broadcasting, in presence of Telecommunications Minister, Charbel Nahas, Information Ministry Director-General, Hassan Falha, Radio Lebanon Director, Mohammad Ibrahim, as well as representatives of Lebanese radios, National Media Council, Civil Aviation Directorate, and OGERO.
"The pressing issue that topped this meeting is that of the communications jamming at Beirut International Airport. We have detailed this risky and unsafe jamming", said Mitri shortly after the meeting.
He therefore stressed the dire necessity to take measures in order to cut short the aforementioned blocking.
"There are three key problems, whereas the first is that radio stations must merely stick to the frequencies determined when given licenses. The second problem is that relevant to the frequency declination. Finally, radio stations' owners ought to abide by the broadcasting power allocated to them", Mitri explained.
He added that the meeting also featured high on the necessity of bracing for setting a guidance plan aiming at redistributing frequencies equally and evenly.
The Minister finally said he will disclose names of stations which will not be taking measures to rectify their situation within the one-month deadline.
