US Scheme Led by Feltman to Besiege PM Mikati in Cooperation with March 14
Local Editor
Al-Akhbar Lebanese daily revealed the veil off a US scheme aiming at besieging Lebanese PM-designate Najib Mikati within the upcoming stage.
According to the daily, the scheme is being directed by former US Ambassador to Lebanon, and now Assistant US Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, in cooperation with a Lebanese team, led by Head of Future Movement Saad Hariri, MP Foad Siniora, and Head of Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea. The scheme is entitled "SOLD".
Furthermore, the newspaper reported, based on Washington sources and leaks, that this strategy aiming at besieging PM Mikati, is technically directed from the US by a pro-"Israeli" figure, who is also close to March 14; Stewart Levy.
The latter is head of the so-called combating terrorist crimes on the financial level, and he is the most prominent among the new conservatives, and who kept his position event after George W. Bush left office.
Al-Akhbar daily mentioned that Feltman started a new series of financial measures, referring to the huge piles of files organized by former Lebanese PM Siniora and his team in Beirut.
The files are related to the Bank of Lebanon's Governor, Riyad Saleme, in addition to other Lebanese banks, which Siniora believes they run the financial businesses of the Shiites in Lebanon and the region.
According to a high ranked source, the daily added that the US also claims that Hizbullah benefits from the aforementioned banks.
According to a US source, the postponement in forming the government has given the US team way to set a strategy based on two principles:
1- The first principle is besieging PM Mikati and pressuring him, in order to stop him from forming a government that abides by choices of Syria and the resistance.
2- The second principle is enhancing March 14 forces to have it in the position of the contributor, whether through entering the government within the blocking third, or through setting a media-political-diplomatic- and popular program to keep the Mikati government under pressure.
