Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed that "To us, the resistance is the strategic and civilized choice; it is not just a rifle and a missile." Berri noted that the resistance can only care less about the latest campaign on its weapons, because such talk is rambling and does not apply to the resistance.

In an interview with As-Safir newspaper, Berri noted that those involved in the campaign to disarm the resistance should be aware that the most dangerous weapon is the sectarianism, which is the origin of the trouble, as it has caused tremendous numbers of conflicts during the past and threatens to produce more of these in the future.

The Speaker added that "this (sectarianism) impedes the building of a modern state that can provide equal opportunity, which requires the dismantling of this particular weapon (sectarianism) considering it a weapon pointed at the chest and ambitions of every Lebanese."

Moreover, Berri assured "I will stand by General Michel Aoun in facing corruption, and will go all the way till the end," adding "Many might be surprised to see my petulance as soon as the battle starts and that is because I want to set things straight once and for all."

On another note, Berri mocked at some who accused the Amal movement of being behind the escalating youth movement demanding the collapse of the sectarian regime, noting "Everyone knows we are not the ones leading the street movement, but at the same time, we are not ashamed to take part in such a campaign especially that were among the first to call for canceling political sectarianism."

Berri also touched on the sensitive case of sectarian policies sweeping across some parts of the Arab world that aim at aborting the popular uprisings and to silence those sympathizing with them.
