As the first radioactive leaks of Japan's Fukushima power plant was detected in the occupied Palestinian Territories, fears that the leaks might hit Lebanon are growing, especially that such leaks could be transmitted via air to harm the atmospheric area for any country.
A source from the national Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission confirmed that no nuclear radioactive materials were detected so far, affirming that the commission purchases advanced and professional tools to detect any nuclear leakages.
In this context, the same source pointed out that if like occupied Palestine, 0.005% radioactive materials reached Lebanon, there will not be any serious and scientific damages on the Lebanese people.
The source also stressed that the commission, in cooperation with the National council for scientific research will follow up this issue on a daily basis, with the coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The National Atomic Energy Commission clarified that when leaks are detected in Lebanon's atmosphere, and are confirmed to be harmful on the public health, then the Prime Minister will make an announcement to inform all the Lebanese.
