Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri assured that the last batch of the Wikileaks cables related to him, are dangerous and filled with "poison". Accordingly, Berri said, these need a decisive reply from both, Amal movement and Hizbullah to such targeting. "The challenges facing our relation from time to time have become a drive for us to only strengthen it," Berri considered.
In an interview with As-Safir newspaper, Berri described Hizbullah SG Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's statement on the Speaker's role in during the July war 2006 as "The right talk", noting that His Eminence Sayyed Nasrallah was precise in explaining how the roles were divided during the war between them, by that realizing integration between the civil and political roles. Berri further noted "there are huge secrets on that phase of which no one knows except for His Eminence and me".
Commenting on some of former US ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey Feltman's "awkward conclusions" mentioned in his cables, Berri said that the major issue is that this Us diplomat "does not understand the bond that brings me together with Sayyed Nasrallah," pointing out "Feltman saw things from one arid dimension, and cannot see the emotional as well as political bonds between us."
Berri underscored that there are many traits and common factors that bring him and Sayyed Nasrallah together. "There is a lot that bring us together on the personal and humanitarian levels." He further reiterated that Amal and Hizbullah are united, and have a common reading to all the issues even if the methods differed.
Berri also noted that most of his quoted words that were mentioned in the cables are either fabricated, such as the claim that he suggested targeting the "Popular Front".
Berri, in an attempt to correct the misled details narrated in the cables about the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's visit to Ain Al Tineh ten days following the beginning of the July war, retold what had happened.
Berri said Rice's attitude at that time bothered him as it was sort of snooty, adding that it was more provocative as it came in context of a US-"Israeli" direct partnership in its aggression on Lebanon.
Berri recalled that when Rice arrived to his residence place, and in contradiction to international protocol he did not receive her, instead it was his consultant waiting for her and escorted her to the meeting hall where the Lebanese Speaker was waiting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Berri informed his guest of the necessity of an immediate cease-fire, pointing out readiness to swap the two "Israeli" soldiers for Dean of the detainees Samir Al Qintar and two other detainees. But soon, he was surprised to hear Rice's cold reply that time has not yet come for a cease-fire.
Then, Berri decided to ignore his guest, sat back in his chair and stretched his feet while looking at the members of the delegation which included David Welsch and Jeffrey Feltman.
Feltman was perplexed and Rice while annoyed tried to get back the initiative, Barri answered "No matter how long until a cease-fire, the Resistance is victorious... Look at your experience in Iraq, true it is that you destroyed the organized army there, but you appear helpless before the members of the Iraqi resistance which has been inflicting you with great losses... And here, in the South Lebanon, the same scene will reoccur, and the resistance does not only include Hizbullah, it also included Amal movement, the people, the soil, and the trees. And here is the "Israeli" army, which as soon as it tries to enter Maroun Al Ras quickly withdraws even though it is a small village. So imagine what is the situation (of the "Israeli" army) in the other Southern cities and villages? Their war is previously known to be losing."
Rice leaves the meeting frowning, and what made things only worse for her is that the Lebanese Speaker did not accompany as she left, and so she refused to elevator and chose to jog down the stairs.
Berri, ending the narration of his story asks a question "When will Ali Hassan Khalil listen to my advice and write a book on the facts of the July war negotiations, of which he possesses in details. Then, be sure we will be before a Wikileaks of a different kind."
Speaker Nabih Berri earlier stressed that Hizbullah SG His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's statement on Amal-Hizbullah relation foiled any attempt of causing disunity between the two allies.
"Sayyed Nasrallah's statement foiled an attempt to break the unity between Hizbullah and Amal," Berri told As Safir newspaper in remarks published Monday.
