Mikati: Tripoli’s Arms Withdrawal Parallel to Development

Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that "Tripoli has the right to enjoy security and stability, like all other Lebanese cities, and what happened last week was a warning alert for all the people, deputies, and leaders of the city."
"I demanded from all competent security leaders, especially the Lebanese army to take necessary actions to stop the clashes and restore calm to the neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabana and Jabal Mohsen and to prevent the establishment of new front lines because Tripoli was and will remain one in all its neighborhoods, regions, and citizens."
During a meeting with a delegation of Tripoli's deputies, in the Government House, Mikati added that he "is going to work to achieve what Tripoli people and all the Lebanese want through deliberate steps and concrete actions in coordination with everyone. We don't want any security measure to be interpreted as directed against a particular party or for the benefit of another party."
Mikati pointed out that "In conjunction with any security step concerned with arms withdrawing from the city, development must move in parallel because we realize that no stability, peace and social justice might spread in the absence of balanced development."
