The Associated Press reported that a human rights activist said that a gas pipeline exploded and was damaged in eastern Syria.
According to Rami Abdul Rahman, from the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the residents of the eastern province of Deir el-Zour told him that the explosion took place late Tuesday on the pipeline in the area of Tayanah, near the borderline with Iraq.

On the other hand, the Syrian Ekhbariyah News TV Channel confirmed that no casualties were reported due to the explosion, adding that the damages on the pipeline were minor.
An official Syrian Oil Ministry source stated on Wednesday that the flames spread to wide area on Tuesday night before being extinguished. However, the Ministry source added that oil production did not stop, and the oil of the damaged pipeline was transferred through other alternative pipelines.

The cause of the fire is still not determined so far, and the authorities are undergoing investigations to define it. Primary investigations expect that the fire might have been caused by the burning of the surrounding dry glass from a certain oil leak.
