UNESCO Reaffirms East al-Quds Part of Occupied Palestinian Territories
Local Editor
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) released on Friday a statement in which it confirmed that East al-Quds (Jerusalem) is part of the occupied Palestinian territories.
In its statement, the international agency affirmed, "UNESCO wished to reiterate that, contrary to recent claims, there has been no change in UNESCO's position on Jerusalem".
"In line with overall UN policy, East al-Quds (Jerusalem) remains part of the occupied Palestinian territory, and the status of Jerusalem must be resolved in permanent status negotiations", the statement added.
UNESCO had witnessed criticism after it listed on its website that al-Quds (Jerusalem) is the capital of a so-called "Israeli" state, however UNESCO reaffirmed its stance with the international and UN consensus that East al-Quds (Jerusalem) is under the "Israeli" military occupation.
"The Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem) is inscribed on the World Heritage List and the List of World in Danger. UNESCO continues to work to ensure respect for the outsranding universal value of the cultural heritage of the Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem)", the UNESCO statement further clarified, in reference to the Palestinian heritage.
Since 1967, the "Israeli" enemy occupied the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East al-Quds (Jerusalem), and the international community recognized "Israel" as an occupying entity with no sovereignty over any of the annexed territories.
