House Speaker Nabih Berri said that PM Najib Mikati's government is promising, stressing the importance of exerting efforts to intensify the government's weekly meetings so that citizens would feel the difference.

"As -Safir" Lebanese newspaper reported on Tuesday that Berri suggested the government should hold a special session to highlight the basis and the principles that Interior Minister Marwan Charbel should follow while drafting the elections law.

"The government has to decide whether to follow the proportional principle or not... and resolve the women quota in the government ... All this facilitates the task of the interior minister," Berri said.

Emphasizing that he supports adopting the law of proportionality which is based on considering Lebanon as one electoral district, Berri added that "this formula forces the candidates to moderate their speeches."

The newspaper reported that Berri noted that he will continue to seriously follow-up the issue of maritime borders.

Berri recalled data that indicate the presence of a Southern field in the bottom of our territorial waters that includes huge quantities of oil measured as trillions.

House speaker revealed to the Lebanese daily that the Foreign Ministry informed the global exploration companies of the dispute with "Israel" over the maritime border, so that these companies which are keen to work in stable environment do not start work.

Berri noted that Mikati's government performance on this issue is very different in its vitality and effectiveness from the previous one.

"The enemy doesn't recognize the International Court of Justice and didn't join it, so heading to file a complaint in it will not benefit Lebanon," House Speaker clarified.

However, "we are heading towards a diplomatic battle at the United Nations," Berri said.

Berri urged the new majority to get used to the fact that it became in the government and not in the opposition anymore.

"Some members in the government still need time to adapt with the new situation," the Speaker said.
