As Protests Continue, Bahraini Forces Attack Pro-Reform Protesters

As the five-month-old Bahraini revolution continues, the Saudi-backed Bahraini regime forces once again attacked the peaceful pro-reform protesters, killing more innocent people, injuring many, and detaining dozens.
On Wednesday, protesters gathered in various Bahraini cities and streets, including Nuwaidrat, Sanabis, Eker, and Sitra, to call against the tyrant ruling al-Khalifa regime and its brutal practices against the people.
The Saudi-backed military forces fired tear gas canisters at the protests, leading to the injury of several participants. The Bahraini regime forces had shown interest in detaining big amounts of civilians, among which were doctors and nurses, and even national figures who peacefully expressed support to the pro-democracy and reform revolution.
Meanwhile, international human rights groups and organizations have been calling upon the Bahraini regime to halt its practices and intimidations against its people, and against reporters and journalists who have been critical to the al-Khalifa regime since the beginning of the uprising in Bahrain.
On its part, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) affirmed in a statement that it documented cases of two journalists who died while still in the Bahraini police custody. Other cases also include detained and tortured journalists.
CPJ Middle East and North Africa Program Coordinator Mohammad Abdel Dayem affirmed that the Bahraini regime is not doing its duty regarding international law, stating, "Bahrain's government has a responsibility to protect journalists from those who resort to threats of violence, intimidation, or fabricated criminal charges to influence coverage".
The Bahraini people are insistent on gaining their rights through daily peaceful protests held in the streets and all districts of the country, calling for the departure of their king and his regime.
