Suleiman: To Demarcate, Protect Maritime Borders, Preserve Rights

Lebanon celebrated its Army Day on Monday as Lebanese President Michel Suleiman stressed on the importance of national dialogue and the adoption of an electoral law based on proportional representation.
Inviting all parties to the dialogue table, Suleiman stressed that "national dialogue is not only aimed at solving lingering issues but also avoiding future conflicts and safeguarding stability."
Suleiman added that "a democratic system and rotation of power end excuses for violence. There is a need for a balanced representation through the adoption of a new, modern and just electoral law."
Addressing graduating officers, their families and the top officials that attended the ceremony, Suleiman stressed that "proportionality is an option that could receive the consensus of all Lebanese."
On the 66th anniversary of the army, Suleiman hailed "the army for preserving the freedom of demonstration and expression, confronting "Israeli" enemy during 2006 war."
"You watered the homeland soil with your blood and you were able to achieve victory in the days of 2006, and you have taken the initiative to confront the provocative "Israeli" military machine in Odeisee so the enemy dropped back in front of your intention and determination," he emphasized.
Referring to the "Israeli" aggression on the Lebanese army in the area of Wazzani on Monday, the president lauded the Lebanese army for confronting "Israeli" troops.

Confirmed the country's full commitment to UN Security Council resolution 1701, Suleiman condemned the attack on the UNIFIL patrols near Sidon.
"Lebanese authorities would find the culprits and bring them to justice," he confirmed.
Suleiman also stressed on Lebanon's right to regain control of all its "Israeli" occupied territories through legal means.
On the latest conflict with "Israel" over the oil and gas resources and their maritime borders, the president said: "We should work on demarcating and protection our maritime borders and preserving our rights in our territorial waters."
