Outgoing Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, stated that his country demands a quick Iraqi decision on the future of the US troops presence in Iraq, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported.

Mullen's remarks came on Tuesday during a trip to Iraq to pressure the officials into adopting a decision as quick as possible, only months before the deadline of the US military presence in Iraq.
In a press conference held at the Camp Victory base compound in Baghdad, Mullen stressed, "We really need a decision now".

"There are certainly discussions which are ongoing and I am hopeful that a decision by the Iraqi leadership to enter negotiations with the US is made very quickly", Admiral Mike Mullen reaffirmed.
He also noted that there are some difficulties faced in the political challenges that are associated with reaching this decision, further clarifying that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Presidnet Jalal Talabani are aware of this issue.

Mullen retaliated, "A significant part of this is just a physics problem... that's why it's so important to make a decision absolutely as soon as possible".

The Iraqi government has not yet issued a final decision regarding a US military presence extension beyond its December 2011 deadline. However, the authorities seem to be subject to US pressure into believing that military cooperation would be useful to Iraq, despite the fact that many Iraqi lawmakers have refused any decision of that kind.
