Bahrain's government has put an advertisement in Pakistan's newspapers to recruit Pakistani mercenaries to help its crackdown on anti-government protesters.

In the advertisement the Bahraini government invited Pakistani mercenaries who have a record of serving in anti-riot forces or military to join Bahrain National Guard (BNG).

The advertisement, titled "Urgent Requirement: Manpower for Bahrain National Guard," calls on forces such as "anti-riot instructors" and "security guards" to enlist in BNG.

Meanwhile, the Bahraini regime announced that it is investigating the killing of a protester during a recent anti-regime rally.

The government said Tuesday it "was probing some police officers for exceeding their authority after a 60 year-old man from Sitra died following two weeks in hospital from inhalation of tear gas this week," Reuters reported.

"An officer and a number of general security personnel at Budaya police station have been transferred for questioning for going beyond the authority granted them by the law," a statement released by the Interior Ministry said.

Nabeel Rajab, head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, has said that the Bahraini citizen Isa al-Taweel died on Sunday from the effects of tear gas fired by security forces when he was inside his home.

Tens of thousands of Bahraini protesters have been holding peaceful anti-government rallies throughout the country since February, demanding an end to the rule of the al-Khalifa family.

Scores of people have been killed and many more have been arrested and tortured in prisons in a government-sanctioned crackdown on peaceful protests since the beginning of the demonstrations
