Two Bahraini anti-regime prisoners have gone on a hunger strike to present against the detention and tortures they're being subject to.

Amnesty International human rights group stated that Roula al-Saffar, head of Bahrain Nursing Society and Jalila al-Salman, deputy head of the Bahrain Teachers' Association, were arrested several months ago for taking part in the anti-regime rallies sweeping across the country.

According to Agence France Presse, Deputy Director of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Arica Program Philip Luther stated on Thursday that the hunger strike "is a desperate attempt to protest against their imprisonment and the way they have been treated".

"Amnesty International is concerned that they are being held solely because they took part in protests, in which case they would both be prisoners of conscience who should be released immediately and unconditionally", Philip Luther added.
The Saudi-backed Bahraini forces have been executing a crackdown at peaceful pro-reform protesters, killing dozens, injuring hundreds, and detaining masses others for taking part in the ongoing protests.
