UN Condemns New Settlement Plans in Occupied Palestinian Territories
The United Nations voiced concern on Wednesday at the "Israeli" recent announcement to expand planning for new settlement units in Ariel and occupied East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
According to a press release issued on Tuesday by UN Information Center (UNIC), the UN and its partners believe this action stands contrary to international law.
In a statement issued, the UN Quartet, compromising the UN, European Union, the US, and Russia, indicated, "Unilateral action by either party cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations and will not be recognized by the international community".
"Jerusalem (al-Quds) in particular is one of the core issues that must be resolved through negotiations between the parties, which underscored the urgent need for the parties to resume serious and substantive talks. [...] This comes at a critical juncture with Quartet efforts ongoing to resume negotiations which are only way to a just and durable solution to the conflict", the statement read.
The "Israeli" enemy has been increasing its approvals of building new settlement units, deliberately violating international law by annexing more Palestinian lands than they have already confiscated.
On its part, the UN has been concerned by this increase of illegal unilateral approvals, describing them as "provocative actions on ground", and contrary to international law.
