Chenny: I Asked Bush to Attack Syria
Local Editor
As the US and its Allies are escalating pressure on Syria, it has been revealed that some in Washington aimed at targeting Syria since 2007.
Former US Vice President Dick Cheney confessed that he pushed former US President George W. Bush to order a military attack on what US and "Israel" claim to be a nuclear site in Syria.
The New York Times reported Thursday that Cheney wrote in his memoirs that "I again made the case for US military action against the reactor during a meeting with Bush and his government members in June 2007."
In his book "In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir", the fotmer US president uncovered the following "But I was a lone voice. After I finished, the president asked, "Does anyone here agree with the vice president?" Not a single hand went up around the room."
"Instead, the "Israeli" regime bombed a site in Syria in September 2007," he added.
"Israel" has neither confirmed nor denied bombing the site.
However, Bush declared in his last year that "the attack took place after he resisted former "Israeli" Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's request for Washington to undertake the strike."
Mentioning that Tel Aviv's continued refusal to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Damascus repeatedly denied harboring a nuclear weapons program.
It opened up the attacked site to IAEA inspectors in 2008 and has pledged to fully cooperate with the agency regarding the issue.
