The United States has threatened Palestine that it would cur aids sent to it if the Palestinians proceed with the bid for UN Security Council statehood in September, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat stated on Friday.

This comes after a clear US and "Israeli" opposition to the Palestine UN statehood bid, where they both claimed that a Palestinian statehood cannot be achieved but through negotiations with "Israel".
According to Erekat, the US Consul-General in al-Quds (Jerusalem), Daniel Rubinstein, told him that there would be retaliatory measures adopted if the Palestinians continue with their bid on September.

Erekat quoted Rubinstein saying, "The American Congress will take punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority including halting American assistance".
