US Threatens Lebanese, Syrian Business Sector

"Any businessman from inside or outside Syria should not think that he is immune
A top US official claimed that "sanctions on the Syrian regime are linked to what al-Assad is doing to its people and not to what he is doing in Lebanon, or Iraq or with Palestinians."
In an interview with the pan Arab daily "al-Hayat", the US official said that "Obama administration is adopting a neutral policy towards PM Najib Mikati because it can't easily overlook the way he came to power."
"The US adopted sanctions against Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali over the disappearance of several Syrian opposition activists in Lebanon," he claimed.
The official told "al-Hayat" correspondent in Paris, that the US "is adopting neutrality because it knows Mikati since he became PM in 2005."
Stating that "Obama administration is seeking along with its partners to end the brutality of al-Assad against its people," he said noting that "Hizbullah's political and tactical support for al-Assad is deepening Sunni-Shiite tension in the region."
"We stand neutral from Najib Mikati because we monitor his movements" he added stressing that "neutrality doesn't mean support for Hizbullah that brought him to power."
"The Syrian president may think twice before setting fire in Lebanon, because that
will be clear to the whole world," the US official claimed.
