Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the Islamic Republic is seriously pursuing the fate of Lebanon's senior Shia cleric Imam Moussa Sadr.
"The Foreign Ministry is seriously pursuing the matter," Mehmanparast said on Saturday, reported sources.

Mehmanparast said that the security situation in Libya during the revolution did not allow Iran to get further information about Imam Sadr and his companions.
He, however, expressed hope that the security situation in Libya would improve and a popular government would be formed so that major issues, including the fate of Imam Moussa Sadr, could be put on the agenda.

The government of Libya had previously denied any involvement in the case and thereby ignored calls for more information about Sadr's disappearance.
In 2008, the government in Beirut issued an arrest warrant for Gaddafi over Sadr's disappearance.
