Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyeb Erdogan stated that the UN is not taking the Middle East crisis seriously, and believed sanctions against "Israel" are a taboo while others are being promoted when dealing with Iran and Sudan.
In an interview with the Time on Monday Erdogan affirmed, "When it's Iran in question, you impose sanctions. Similarly with Sudan. What happens with "Israel" then?"

Moreover, he further indicated that sanctions imposed by the UN on "Israel" would have helped in resolving the Middle East peace issue long ago.
In this context, he said he felt the UN Quartet on the Middle East was not genuinely seeking to resolve the conflict between "Israel" and the Palestinians.
"Until today, the UN Security Council has issued more than 89 resolutions on prospective sanctions related to "Israel", but they've never been executed", Erdogan stressed in the interview, further stating, "One might wonder why no sanctions have been imposed on "Israel"".

On another hand, Turkey's PM questioned the UN Quartet's interest in resolving the Middle East conflict, believing it lacks sincerity in this regard.
He went on to say, "Unfortunately, I do not even see the traces this within the Quartet. Because if the Quartet was so willing to resolve this issue, they would have imposed certain issues on "Israel" today".

Turkish PM Erdogan's remarks came amid deteriorating ties between Turkey and "Israel" after the latter refused to apologize over its attack on the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara, which resulted in the death of nine Turkish activists.
