Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem urged the international community to put an end to the financing and arming the extremist groups which have been killing and terrorizing citizens, adding that this constitutes a main challenge to Syria.
In a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Tuesday, al-Moallem stressed that his country is determined to implement reforms issued by President Bashar al-Assad according to a specific timeline.

He further added, "Syria is ready to cooperate with the UN within the framework of respect for Syria's sovereignty, independent decision and rejection of any foreign interference in its internal affairs", Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
Moreover, Syrian Foreign minister called upon the US Secretary General to play a positive role that "contributes to achieving security and stability in the region through making the influential parties in the Security Council refrain from taking steps that incite violence and lead to imposing their hegemony on the region".

On his part, Ban Ki-moon highlighted Syria's role in the region, and stressed on the importance of attaining security and stability and implementing the reforms set by President al-Assad.
