The UN Human Rights Office condemned the cruel sentences issued by the Bahraini military courts on medical workers and tens of peaceful protesters, Reuters reported.

In this context, Rupert Colville, spokesman of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR), stating on Friday, "For such harsh sentences to be handed down to civilians in a military court with serious due process irregularities raises severe concerns".
He further referred to the defendants, saying that they have limited access to lawyers; "One defense lawyer representing a number of medical professionals told reporters that the trial lasted no longer than 10 minutes".

"The Court of National Safety is not investigating torture allegations and has not permitted recordings of the proceedings. So, all of that causes serious concern", Colville reiterated.

Since mid-February, the Bahraini authorities have been imposing a crackdown on civilians protesting the tyrant regime. Saudi-backed Bahraini forces have been killing and detaining hundreds of peaceful protesters since then, among them medical staff, human rights activists, and opposition figures.
