Bahraini regime forces slaughtered 16-year-old Ahmed Jaber al-Qattan as he was shot in the chest at close range in the northern village of Abu Saiba on Thursday.

The young man was immediately taken to the International Hospital in the capital city, but was pronounced dead after emergency treatments failed.

"He was shot by the security forces at close proximity during a protest with the pellet shotgun, which seems to have penetrated his heart and/or lung and caused his death," said Mariam al-Khawaja of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) in a statement.

The news of Qattan's death sparked numerous protests across Bahrain, all of which faced heavy crackdown by the Saudi-backed security forces.

Meanwhile, a female Bahraini journalist, Bassima Al Qassab, has been summoned to a court over allegations of inciting hatred against the government and organizing "illegal gatherings," despite promises by Manama about granting immunity of journalists.

Earlier, she had been interrogated about her interview with foreign media on the uprisings in Bahrain and her opinions posted on Twitter.

Late in August, Bahraini forces killed 14-year-old Ali Jawad by shooting a tear gas canister at the teenager during a protest held following Eid al-Fitr prayers in the city of Sitra

Since mid-February, thousands of anti-government protesters have been staging regular demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling on the US-backed Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

On March 14, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded the country to assist Bahraini rulers in their brutal crackdown on peaceful anti-government protesters.
