The Islamic Republic of Iran urged Saudi Arabia "not to fall into the trap of believing US claims that Tehran was behind an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.

Clarifying that the accusations only served the US and "Israel", Iran's deputy foreign minister of Europe and American affairs hoped that "Saudi Arabia will understand the aims of this plot which was mounted by the US."

"This pathetic and conspirator scenario is so clumsy that even American media and political circles are looking at it with doubt," he said.

"The instigators of this scenario have to say what benefit Tehran could extract from the assassination of the Saudi ambassador." he added reiterating that "US accusations were likely an attempt to distract attention from America's economic woes and foreign policy setbacks in the Middle East."

He also said that the idea that Iran "is reinforcing its role in the region and was "handling the nuclear issue without problems and that the sanctions aren't having an effect... certainly pushed Washington to use this scenario to try to weaken
Tehran."

Similarly, the Non-Aligned Movement news agency said on Friday that Iranian officials have taken firm stances against US claims.

For his part, Iranian Parliament's Speaker Ali Larijani described US allegations are pure funny fabrication.

"Following regional revolutions, the US has lost its allies one after another, so resorting to such a conspirator scenario," he stressed.

S
audi Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal in remarks published on Friday slammed what he called "Iran's attempts to interfere in the affairs of the Arab states.
"

"The information we received condemns Iran, but the kingdom did not yet decide whether or not to recall its ambassador from Tehran," he told Saudi A-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper.

"Somebody in Iran must pay the price," he said.

Meanwhile, Qatari minister of state for international cooperation, Khaled al-Attiyah submitted a message from Qatar's Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani to the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"Enemies want to once again conquer the Middle East and dominate its oil resources to solve their economic crisis by plundering the wealth of regional countries," IRNA quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.
