All US Military Occupation Out of Iraq This Year
Local Editor
US President Barack Obama announced Friday that he would pull his occupation troops from Iraq this year, almost nine years after the US invasion and after he failed to convince Iraq that several thousand troops remain under the name of trainers.
"As I promised, the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of the year. After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over," Obama told reporters.
Obama spoke after a video conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and said the two were in full agreement about how to move forward.
More than eight years later, the war is ending after taking the lives of more than hundred thousands of Iraqi people, and leaving a huge number of injured.
At the US occupation level, war fought under the pretext of protecting the world from weapons of mass destruction that were never found, harvested 4,479 U.S occupation soldiers as well as tens of thousands of injured, including legions of amputees and multitudes suffering from battle trauma.
