Russia Opposes West Unilateral Sanctions Against Iran
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared that his country strictly opposes the west's unilateral sanctions imposed against Iran.
In an interview with Russian Radio stations, Lavrov affirmed that unilateral sanctions on Iran will not in any way help solve the Iranian problem.
"After we reached an agreement in the UN Security Council about Iran, the Western partners imposed unilateral sanctions and created disunity among the UNSC members", Lavrov indicated.
He also stressed on the importance of resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiation, urging the resumption of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1.
Responding to western claims about the unjust nature of the Iranian administrative structure, the Russian Foreign Minister confirmed that Iran is a country with a full democratic system.
He further noted that contrary to some of its neighboring countries, elections in Iran are held democratically, proving the democratic nature of the government.
Lavrov cites the friendly bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow, adding that president of both countries are on regular contact to develop ties.
