Ten Killed, Twenty Six Injured in Baghdad Blast
Local Editor
Ten people have been killed and 26 others have been injured in bomb explosions at a market in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, police officials say.
On Sunday, police said 10 people were dead and 26 injured in three bomb blasts that rocked Shurja market in central Baghdad, according to Reuters.
Iraqi government officials said the explosions were carried out at about 1:00 pm local time. The latest deadly incident took place as on Wednesday, three bomb explosions left eight people dead and scores of others wounded in the southern Iraqi port city of Basra.
On Friday, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki blamed foreign countries for causing trouble in Iraq, saying some nations are "spending money and making efforts" to destabilize the country.
The Iraqi prime minister said, "The Iraqis do not want to build an aggressive country that will replace others. They want a country that will help in achieving local and regional stability."
Increased bombings targeting civilians and army are apparently carried out to undermine public trust in Iraqi security forces and question their ability to maintain security after US forces leave the country by the end of 2011.
