AL Decision on Suspending Syria Violation, Millions of Syrians Protest Foreign Intervention
Local Editor
Millions of Syrians took to the streets on Sunday to express rejection and denunciation of the Arab League's (AL) decision on suspending Syria's membership in the League.
Since the early morning on Sunday, millions flocked to the public squares in Damascus, Aleppo, Tartous, Lattakia, Sweida, Hasaka, Daraa, Raqqa, Deir- Ezzor, Homs, Hama and Idleb to stress that Syria has carried the torch of culture and Arabism and it will always remain steadfast.
The participants in the rallies indicated that the Arab League was used as a tool for conspiring against Syria after all the other attempts failed thanks to the unity of the Syrian people and leadership and their determination to go forward in their support to the resistance and the rejection of the hegemonic policies.
Millions of the citizens conveyed a national message to those who suspect the Syrian people's ability to fulfill their national aspiration a way from any interferences that only serve the US and "Israeli" agendas in the region, saying that the Syrian people believe that they must defend the homeland with their blood, minds and loyalty to remain steadfast in the face of its enemies.
Meanwhile, during a session chaired by Speaker Mahmoud al-Abrash, the People's Assembly on Sunday denounced the Arab League's resolution on Syria, affirming that it constitutes a clear violation of the Arab League's charter and internal regulations and entails blatant interference in Syria's internal affairs.
Members of the People's Assembly decried this resolution, saying that the Arab League has become a tool for carrying out suspect foreign plots in a clear effort to fragment the Arab nation and undermine its components.
They affirmed that Syria is being targeted because of its national and pan-Arab stances in support of Arab causes and rights and resistance and its rejection of foreign dictations, saying that the people behind this resolution aren't interested in reform or the Syrian people's interest; rather they seek to stroke Syria and its stances.
They affirmed that the Syrian people will rally behind its leadership and adhere to its just cause, and that the people's reaction to the resolution on Saturday shows its awareness of the threats against Syria.
They noted that the Arab League's decision to impose political and economic sanctions was pre-prepared in order to eventually lead to foreign interference.
Earlier on Saturday, Arab foreign ministers voted to suspend Syria from its meetings and impose sanctions against the country over its failure to end the crackdown on protesters. The decision was viewed as surprise by many who even after the meeting expected some form of sanctions to be imposed rather than a full suspension.
The Arab league's decision also called on Arab states to withdraw their Ambassadors from Syria but left that decision in the hands of each state out of respect for the country's sovereignty.
