Al-Moallem: AL Decision Very Dangerous Step on Joint Arab Action
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem stated that the Arab League (AL) decision to suspend Syria's membership constitutes a very dangerous step on the present and future of the joint Arab action and the goals and role of the AL.
At a press conference held in Damascus on Monday, Minister al-Moallem affirmed, "After Syria agreed on the Arab initiative, an unprecedented media escalation started and the armed operations were accelerated on the ground...The US statements constituted a provocation for the foreign interference in Syria without any response from the Arab League".
In this context, he added, "The AL decision shouldn't have been taken in respect to the events taking place on the ground. Syria proposed holding an emergency summit to address the current crisis and its repercussions and it welcomed the visit of the committee. Syria is currently passing through a crisis and it pays the price for its firm stances and honest Arabism".
Moreover, he went on to say that the Syrian officials "are determined to carry out the Arab work plan as it comes in line with the plan of the Syrian leadership on stopping the violence".
"The Arab work plan must be accompanied by monitoring the borders by the neighboring countries to prevent weapons smuggling and to stop financing the armed terrorist groups", al-Moallem affirmed.
Syrian Foreign Minister indicated that Syria has always "dealt with the reform and dialogue files, in addition to stopping the bloodshed of the Syrian citizens with complete openness as it recognizes the size of the conspiracy on one hand and it also realizes the importance of its people's unity in all of their spectrums to face this conspiracy".
On the same level, Minister al-Moallem stressed that the Libyan scenario will not be repeated in Syria, adding that Syria is "committed to the joint Arab action since Syria is the beating heart of Arabism and there would be no joint Arab action without it".
Regarding Syria's relations with other countries like Iran and Russia, al-Moallem noted, "Our relationship with Iran is firm and strategic and not at the expense of our relationship with any Arab country". He further added, "There are no limits for booting our relationship with Russia to be a model for the strategic relations at all levels".
Also, he stated, "The Russian and Chinese stances which gained respect and gratitude of the Syria people will not be changed", further thanking Russia, China, Brazil, India, Lebanon, and South African for their stances at the UN Security Council.
On the domestic level, al-Moallem reaffirmed that the most important issue now is to stop the media instigations that are of an unknown source.
He also addressed the Syrian people saying that "they should not be worried because Syria is not Libya, and the scheme will be divulged day after day".
"We are heading towards the end of the crisis", Syrian Foreign Minister reiterated.
"The Syrian efforts are focused on solving the crisis and not escaping from it. We practice quite democracy, and we endure all forms of pressure quietly and wisely as we are confident that the time will bring the others back to their senses", al-Moallem said.
