Lavrov: Suspending Syria’s AL Membership a Mistake, Premeditated Act
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that his country considers suspending Syria's membership in the Arab League (AL) as "a mistake and a premeditated act".
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Lavrov stressed that "Those who made that decision lost a very important opportunity to move the situation towards a more transparent course".
Moreover, he noted that there are some sides, Arabs and foreigners, who don't want the Syrians to agree with each other.
Furthermore, he added that the Western countries are provoking the Syrian opposition in order to shake the Syrian stability, further expressing his disappointment over the US and French stances in this regard.
Minister Lavrov went on to say that the opposition members were provoked to adopt an extremist path, aiming at toppling the regime and rejecting any call for dialogue.
"The extremist gunmen exploit the peaceful demonstration to provoke the Syrian authorities", the Russian Foreign Minister indicated.
