Arab Foreign Ministers to Send Observers to Syria
At the conclusion of their meeting at Rabat on Wednesday, Arab foreign ministers decided to send a legal and regulatory memo to the Syrian Foreign Ministry on signing a protocol to send observers to Syria.
The ministers also requested that the AL Secretary General take the steps he deems suitable regarding naming the members of the aforementioned delegation of Arab League observers and making the necessary communications with the Syrian government to sign the protocol.
The ministers' decision said that after the signing the protocol within no more than three days, the AL observers' delegation will be sent to Syria.
Asked whether the pitch was a last-ditch effort at diplomacy, Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad Bin Jassim al-Thani said that "we don't want to talk about a last-ditch attempt because I do not want this to sound like a warning."
Speaking at the same meeting, Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby said the time was not right to hold an Arab League summit on Syria.
