Syrian Information Minister: Syria is committed to the Arab initiative
Source: Nowlebanon, 16-1-2008
Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal said that Damascus is committed to the Arab initiative on Lebanon.
"Syria is committed to the policy of ‘no winner, no looser' in Lebanon," Bilal said during a press conference in Damascus.
He also expressed hope that Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa's efforts lead to a solution.
"Asking Syria to pressure its allies in Lebanon is a deviation from the Arab initiative's framework," Bilal said.
The international community has called on Damascus to pressure its Lebanese allies to facilitate the presidential elections.
"Syria and Saudi Arabia have many friends and allies in Lebanon," Bilal said.
"Is it required to put pressure here and there or to reach a consensus solution?" he asked.
Bilal also said that Damascus is ready to host the Arab Summit in March.
