Lebanon Condemns Attacking UNIFIL, France: Blast Won’t Terrify US

As the UNIFIL was once again under attack, Lebanese officials rushed to condemn
the attack describing it as "terrorist."
From Armenia, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman slammed the terrorist attack on UN French peacekeepers saying that "it aims at driving the peacekeepers out of the country."
Stressing that "France has made huge sacrifices for Lebanon," Suleiman vowed that "we will not succumb to these terrorist activities."
"The state will assume its responsibility in arresting the culprits to prevent the return of such attacks," he said.
Similarly, Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri condemned the explosion that targeted the French UNIFIL troops in Tyre.
In a statement issued by his office, Berri emphasized that "the terrorist attack against UNIFIL forces aims at destabilizing Lebanon and particularly the South turning them into a space of chaos."
Noting that the blast serves "Israeli" interests, Berri viewed that ""Israel" wants the South to be empty of any international witnesses, so that it can continue committing crimes and aggressions."
Berri also called on "the Lebanese army and the security institutions to reveal the truth behind the attack."
He also called on residents of the South to "beware of the attempts to disturb the area and expose it to "Israeli" terrorism and aggressions."
For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati slammed the attack viewing that it won't affect UNIFIL's role.
Heading a security meeting in the Grand Serail, Mikati confirmed that "such kind of crimes not only target UNIFIL forces but also the security and stability of all Lebanon and the south."
"These attacks will not affect the work of UNIFIL in the South nor its commitment to the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1701," Mikati added.
At the targeted level, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe condemned attack on his country's peacekeeping patrol.
"I condemn in the strongest terms the cowardly attack that was carried out against UNIFIL wounding five French peacekeepers and a civilian," Juppe said in his statement.
Noting that "his country is determined to continue its involvement with UNIFIL," he stressed that "it will not be intimidated by such vile acts."
