The Iranian government decided to block a website of the British government representing its shuttered embassy in Tehran.

This comes in an upgrading step to halt diplomatic ties between Tehran and London, after the first expelled the British Ambassador and deported the embassy's staff.

On his part, British Foreign Minister William Hague stated on Thursday that the website has been deliberately targeted by the Iranian regime. He claimed that "This action is counterproductive and ill-judged. It will confirm to the Iranian people that their government is determined to block their access to information, and to conceal from them the international community's legitimate concerns about Iran's policies and behavior. It will also make it harder for Iranian nationals to access information about visiting the UK".

However, Britain might as well seem to be the side which started the escalating tension with Iran; for while Iran was trying to maintain bilateral diplomatic ties, Britain insisted on passing new rounds of economic sanctions over the Iranian nuclear file.
After a new round of sanctions was approved, the Iranian government decided to gradually cut its diplomatic ties with the UK.
