Lavrov: Russian UN Draft Aims At Stopping Armed Terrorist Provocations
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed Friday that "the Russian draft decision on Syria at the UN Security Council which condemns the use of force by all sides is aimed at stopping the armed provocations of terrorist groups which result in killing civilians."
In an interview published at the Russian Foreign Ministry website, Lavrov considered that "turning a blind eye to the armed terrorist groups in Syria may push towards a repetition of the Libyan scenario when Western powers exploited the motto of protecting civilians and grossly distorted the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1973."
Asserting that "Moscow can't agree with some UNSC member countries' calls to invoke the Libyan scenario for settling disputes," he viewed that "the Yemeni settlement of the internal crisis is a model to follow where all foreign players worked without giving ultimatums with all parties to prod them into accepting compromises."
