The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) issued a draft resolution in which it once again called on the "Israeli" regime to compensate Lebanon for the damages it caused it during the July 2006 war.

On Thursday, the UNGA issued a statement from its New York-based headquarters, highlighting the wartime destruction, which, according to the agency, caused Lebanon's "worst-ever environmental disaster".
The statement indicated that "Israeli" warplanes repeatedly bombed the Jiyyeh power plant in south Lebanon, and therefore resulted in leaking more than 10,000 tons of heavy fuel oil, causing extensive damage to Lebanon and other countries.

Also, the UNGA statement further noted that the "Israeli" entity should take responsibility for providing "prompt and adequate compensation" to Lebanon and other countries that were directly affected by the oil leak.
In favor of the draft resolution, 165 countries voted, while 8 states, including "Israel", the US, Canada, and Australia voted against. Six countries on another hand abstained from voting, while 14 states were absent.

The aforementioned draft resolution was passed after vigorous efforts by the Lebanese permanent mission to the UN, and the Lebanese Environment Ministry.
