Rocket-Launching Frigates, Artillery Units Stage Heavy Fire in Iranian Naval Drills

The Iranian Navy's rocket-launching frigates and artillery units joined the country's drills Friday.
On the last day of the tactical stage of the massive "Velayat 90" drills, the rocket-launching frigates, speedboats, and coastal defense artillery units of the Iranian Navy staged wide-scale fire on hypothetical enemy vessels.
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, along with a number of senior Army and Armed Forces commanders, supervised the drills to evaluate the preparedness level of the country's commando units.
Iran's naval forces started 10-day drills, dubbed as "Velayat 90", in an area stretching from the East of the Strait of Hormoz to the Gulf of Aden.
The Iranian Navy also plans to fire long-range missiles and smart torpedoes during the drills Saturday.
"The Iranian navy will test several kinds of its missiles, including its long-range missiles," Deputy Commander of the Iranian Navy and Spokesman of the Drills Admiral Mahmoud Moussavi told Fars News Agency.
"The fire of missiles is the final part of the navy drill," said Moussavi adding that "the final phase of the drill is to prepare the navy for confronting the enemy in war situations."
