Strong he was and determined to confront the battle he vowed.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a rare public appearance Wednesday vowing "to defeat the conspiracy against Damascus."

Casually dressed, a confident-looking al-Assad stood at the edge of the throng addressing tens of thousands of citizens: "I came here to draw from your strength. Thanks to you, I have never felt weak."

"Without a doubt we will defeat the conspiracy, which is nearing its end and will also be the end for (the conspirators) and their plans," al-Assad told tens of thousands of cheering supporters in the capital's central Omayyad Square.

"We do trust the future, put trust in you, and through you we are to be victorious against the conspiracy,"added President al-Assad, lashing out at the conspirators who are in the final phase of their conspiracies.

The public address comes a day after Assad vowed to "crush terrorists with an
"iron fist.
