Russia: We Urge Dialogue in Syria, Reject Foreign Interference, Unilateral Sanctions
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Gennady Gatilov affirmed on Monday that his country does not approve the draft resolution submitted by the Arab League (AL) and the Western countries to the UN Security Council on Syria.

In a press conference, Gatilov indicated that Russia and China both voted last October against a draft resolution presented by the Western countries to the Security Council, stating that it included unacceptable items, affirming that the current draft resolution is no different than the previous one.
Moreover, elaborating on the said draft resolution, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister clarified that "it cannot form a ground to reach common dominators at the Security Council on the Syrian issue", SANA news agency reported.
"It is a biased document that sparks debates and leaves the door open for interference in the Syrian affairs", Gatilov stated.
Also, he indicated his country's appeal to the UNSC members to study in detail the AL observer mission's report on Syria, before discussing the draft resolution.
"We don't trade, but we seek others to take into consideration out stance and viewpoint", Gatilov indicated.
"We assert that our basic principles would be reflected in any resolution about Syria [...] which means rejecting violence from any side, bringing the government and opposition into serious dialogue away from any foreign intervention", the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister confirmed.
On this level, he explained that the danger of intervention does not only stop at Syria, recalling that his country "didn't accept the Libyan Scenario, which is linked to a big violation, to be a base to resolve conflicts".
Rejecting the unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria by some countries, Gatilov stressed that any international sanctions on Syria would not be effective, since the UNSC didn't impose any sanctions in this regard.
