Iranian Military Commander: Western Sanctions Doomed to Failure

"What the West imposed against the Islamic Republic merely lengthens the bureaucratic route for us in some cases but ....the country's authorities will find ways to counter them (sanctions)," the Iranian commander said.
Naqdi said that "Iran can still sell 82 percent of its oil and the rise in oil prices caused by the sanctions will more than make up for the remaining 18 percent that was previously sold to the Europeans, which Tehran can keep."
"Another benefit of the sanctions is [it will] reduce Iran's imports, encouraging the people to turn to economical products and because 200 thousand new jobs will be created with every one billion dollar reduction in imports, the country will witness a significant fall in unemployment," he argued.
Commander of Iran's Basij force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi downplayed the effects of the US and Europe's oil ban against Tehran, and said the western sanctions are doomed to failure.
Naqdi said on Monday that the sanctions indicate the desperation of the West, confirming that "Western sanctions are doomed (to failure) from the very outset and useless, as they are not economical in nature and their essence is official and bureaucratic."
