"Israeli" forces have closed the al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) after "Israeli" settlers initiated clashes with Palestinian worshippers at the site. Yet according to sources, dozens of Palestinians foiled the attempt of "Israeli" fundamentalists to break into the mosque.
The clashes erupted on Sunday morning after dozens of settlers entered the holy site and scuffled with the worshippers. "Israeli" forces intervened and clashed with the Palestinians in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound. "Israeli" forces also closed all the entrances to the compound, keeping dozens of worshippers inside.
In further details, local sources reported that the settlers gathered near the al-Magharba Bridge, that leads to the al-Magharba Gate, west of the Al-Aqsa mosque, while dozens of Israeli policemen were deployed in the area.
The Al-Quds Media Center reported that some extremist settler groups, including extremist members of the "Trustees of the Temple", called on their followers to break into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order "to affirm the Jewish control and sovereignty on the mosque" a first step towards "rebuilding the temple".
Meanwhile, Hamas spokesperson, Fawzi Barhoum, stated that the settlers are trying to wage a religious war against the Muslims and the Palestinians, and called for a massive revolution to protect al-Quds (Jerusalem), the al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestine amidst ongoing attacks by the settlers, and repeated calls for breaking into the mosque.
Several Palestinians and "Israeli" forces were injured during the clashes, sources reported. Police detained three Palestinians inside the compound, "Israeli" police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said.
Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is one of the holiest sites in Islam, has been the scene of clashes between "Israeli" troops and Palestinian worshipers in the course of the occupation of the Palestinian territories by Tel Aviv.
