LA: To Strike Down with Iron Fist Attempts of Harming Stability

The army added that Lebanese citizens were counting on them to provide shelter against any possible conflicts "whether internal, or located on the borders."
The Lebanese Army Command stressed Friday that it will "strike down with an iron fist any side that attempts to harm the LA or to breach its procedures or that aim at threatening the coherence of the soldiers and their loyalty."
In the context of publication of guidelines to the military, entitled "Preservation of civil peace and protecting the country from the dangers," the Lebanese army viewed that "the Lebanese government's position concerning the Syrian developments moves in accordance with the challenges presented by the Arab Spring."
"The stance taken by the Lebanese government on the Syria is inspired by its awareness to the level of sectarian challenges that are affecting the Arab world, including Lebanon," the LA's statement said.
Warning of "dire consequences if the situation turned into a sectarian conflict," the statement considered that "the attempts to divide the military soldiers and to undermine their national immunity by raising religious and sectarian instincts serve neither the army nor all the Lebanese."
The statement also commented on the threats faced by the army, the latest of which were the pro- and anti-Syrian regime protests in downtown Beirut.
"The army proved that it was able to protect the protesters and avert any clashes."
Vowing that it will not "tire in apprehending the sides that seek to destabilize the country, regardless of their affiliations," the army pledged before the Lebanese that "it will not back down from its national mission."
"The Lebanese people look up to the army to protect the country against "Israeli" assaults and any attempts to create strife on the internal scene."
